Original San Diego Streetcar at the January Show!

Original San Diego Streetcar at the January Show!

For the past 14 years, Christian Chaffee has been the caretaker of three remaining historic streetcars that were once the core of San Diego's transportation system. They ran until 1939.

As reported by KFMB-TV Channel 8, Chris will have an original streetcar on display at this weekend's Antique Show and Sale.

Here's the news story:

"I want to see a historic streetcar system reconnecting downtown with Balboa park and with all the outlying areas around Balboa Park," he said.

According to Channel 8, he claims that streetcars can do for San Diego what cable cars did for San Francisco.

What do you think?

I agree with Channel 8!

Streetcars were my mode of transport when I was a child. I rode from Kensington to Balboa Park for a nickle.

Since I was born in 1939, I'm assuming that the three streetcars for which Christian Chaffee has been caretaker were taken out of service in 1939, others continued to run for several years more.

I think it would be a great addition to San Diego.
